WebDAV: Centralized storage and access for all your company's files
WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) is a protocol aimed to make the world wide web a readable and writeable medium. It provides functionality to create, change and move documents on a remote server.
WebDAV is an emerging technology and is not in widespread use yet, but most Windows and Linux systems are packaged with WebDAV clients which allows your computer to connect seamlessly with a WebDAV server.
What does this mean?
In plain English, a WebDAV server allows your team members to access the same files as if it were another folder on their computer. They can create, edit, and move files, and they can see the files that other users may be working on. They can even search through files.
Basically, a local folder is created on your computer, which is mapped to a folder on our WebDAV server. Your company will not even notice it is connected to the server and the files will just appear to be on your local hard drive. The caveat, of course, is that your company requires a permanent Internet connection, such as high-speed DSL or cable modem.
